Best Vacuum Under 200 Dollar You Must Check Out

By admin | Buying Guide

Everybody likes a value buy. For the budget-conscious, you may be wondering if it’s possible to get a great vacuum cleaner at under $200. After all, we have been trained to associate price with quality: the higher the price, the better the quality. While that may be true to some extent, it doesn’t mean that there are no value buys to be found. Here, I am going to show you the best vacuums under $200. Yes, you heard me right. There are great vacuum cleaners that you can purchase with just a $200 budget.

How to Make the Most of Vacuums Under $200:

Just because a vacuum is priced under $200 doesn’t mean that it will be of low quality. There are quality vacuums that are readily available at this price point. When considering vacuums under $200, what you need to look out for is the durability, quality and accompanying toolkit that comes with such vacuums. The main issue for vacuums under $200 usually lies with the quality of its spare parts like the brush and the hose. This in turn affects the durability of the vacuum. A vacuum without critical parts like its brush and its hose is like a dog without its bite.

Moreover, it can be rather costly to purchase brush and hose replacements—a vacuum brush can cost as much as replacing an entire vacuum cleaner. You don’t want to purchase a $200 vacuum with a vacuum brush that breaks down within months and costs $200 to replace; in which case, you might as well have spent $400 to buy a vacuum of higher quality. Also, unlike their more expensive peers, vacuums under $200 typically have one or two star features that work extremely well and other relatively standard complimentary features. To avoid the above mentioned pitfalls and determine the best vacuums under $200, I find it helpful to consider the following.

  • Which feature is of most importance to you?

At a price point of $200 and below, you can’t expect a vacuum to have nothing but top-notch features. Be practical and realistic. To manage the cost price of mid-ranged vacuums, the manufacturers are bound to cut cost and downgrade the quality in certain areas. To identify the best vacuum to serve your needs, you need to decide on the one feature that is most important to you.

Perhaps you want a vacuum that can remove pet fur effectively. Or maybe you are looking for a vacuum that can perform both dry and wet cleaning. Once you identify that, make that the focal point in your research on the best vacuums within your budget. You will find that you have a much easier time shortlisting a vacuum under $200 that best fits your priority.

  • How does the vacuum fare in terms of customer reviews?

Vacuum reviews are great sources of information to help you identify the best vacuums under $200. Before you make the leap to purchase a vacuum cleaner, it is always good to go through vacuum reviews so that you can learn from the firsthand experiences of others who have used this vacuum cleaner. This gives you a better idea of the vacuum’s actual durability, quality, warranty claims and customer support, and help you determine if it makes for a value purchase.

As mentioned, vacuums under $200 may have quality issues when it comes to the brush and the hose. For instance, the hose may jam more frequently or it may not be able to pick up huge pieces of debris for prolonged periods of time. Other common quality issues in terms of the vacuum brush would be its durability. At this price point, the vacuum brush is usually made of a less durable material and is more prone to wear and tear. This makes it important to consider the length of the warranty, the ease of making claims and reaching out to the warranty service team.

Ultimately, you should also be mindful that vacuums under $200 are usually not designed for high-frequency and intensive cleaning for prolonged periods of time. To maximize the lifespan of such vacuums, it would be wise to adhere to the manufacturer’s guidelines on the usage and maintenance of the vacuum. In this respect, vacuum reviews may also provide useful maintenance tips that may not necessarily be found in the user manual or even the manufacturer’s website.

  • What is the price range to consider?

Within the $200 price point, there are vacuums priced under $100 and there are vacuums in the higher range: $150-$200. As you may expect, vacuums under $100 can do a decent job when it comes to basic cleaning, but don’t hold high hopes for its durability and quality. They are also likely to come with standard features and nothing fancy or impressive.

Vacuums priced from $150 to $200 would usually come with at least one specialty feature. Again, you should decide based on your own priorities. If you are on an extremely tight budget, money is your main concern and you can live with a basic vacuum that lasts for a year or two, vacuums under $100 should do the job for you. If you are looking for something more durable and of higher quality, or a vacuum with a specialty feature that meets your needs, I would recommend looking at vacuums within the $150 to $200 price range.

Below are my top five picks of the best vacuums under $200 that are currently available on Amazon. To cater to different needs, my list is not a vanilla list of upright vacuums or backpack vacuums. I have identified the best vacuum for each of the five commonly used types: backpack, upright, cordless, handheld and hybrid. For those on a tight budget, I have also mentioned affordable alternatives below $100 (typically older models of my top picks) where available.

Top 5 Vacuum Cleaners Under 200 Dollar You Should Check Out

Best Vacuum Under $200 (Backpack Option): ATRIX VACBP1 HEPA Backpack Vacuum

Backpack vacuums are usually designed for commercial usage and tend to be more expensive. However, the Atrix VACBP1 is an affordable option under $200 (under $150 in fact) for home or professional cleaning. For those who have not read about it in my article on best backpack vacuums, this vacuum is a good deal featuring good suction power, a lightweight design and a decent array of tools. To overcome the problem around its short power cord (only two feet long), you can simply get an extension cord. This is the best vacuum under $200 if you are a homeowner looking for a backpack option. For commercial users who need vacuums that can withstand heavy usage, I would recommend that you consider my other top picks on the Best Backpack Vacuums for a more long-lasting option.

Best Vacuum Under $200 (Upright Option): Shark Rotator Professional Lift-Away NV501

Since the launch of Shark’s latest NV752, the price of the Shark Rotator NV501 has been reduced and currently falls just within our $200 budget. The Shark Rotator NV501 is very similar to the Shark Navigator NV356E, which I introduced recently as the best all-rounder upright vacuum in my article on Best Upright Vacuums 2017. Like the NV356E, the NV501 has enhanced swivel steering capability, a Lift-Away mode for portability, a Brushroll Shutoff system to transition seamlessly between carpet and hardwood floor, a 30 feet power cord, HEPA filtration and a completely sealed anti-allergen system.

On top of these features, the NV501 has other enhancements that make it stand out from the NV356E. The NV501 comes with LED headlights which help you find your way around areas that are not so well-lit and ensure that they are well-cleaned. The NV501 also has the upper hand in terms of its range of accessories. Besides the standard accessories, the NV501 comes with a canister caddy, a car detail kit, a dusting brush, a straight suction nozzle, a premium pet power brush and a wide range of cleaning heads. At 15.5lbs, it is just slightly heavier than the NV356E which weighs 14.0lbs. Like the NV356E, the NV501 also comes with a five-year warranty.

Right now, the NV501 costs about the same as the NV356E, making it a steal for the additional new features it has on top of the NV356E. If you want an upright vacuum, I think that this would make the best vacuum under $200.

Best Vacuum Under $200 (Cordless Option): Hoover Air Cordless 2-in-1 Deluxe BH52120PC

Cordless vacuums tend to be more expensive but that doesn’t mean that you can’t find a great cordless vacuum under $200. In my article on Best Upright Vacuums 2017, the Hoover Air Lift BH51120PC was my top pick for best cordless vacuums. If your budget is within $100 to $200, consider its older cousin: the BHP52120PC. The BHP52120PC has a 20-volt lithium ion battery and Hoover’s proprietary Wind Tunnel 2 technology that enables it to suck and remove surface and deeply-embedded dirt effectively. Its LED lights and swivel head also makes it more portable and convenient when it comes to cleaning.

For an even more affordable alternative below $100, the Hoover Linx BH50010 would be your best bet. It comes with the same Wind Tunnel technology (albeit first-generation) and an 18-volt lithium ion battery, and has decent suction. However, if you are looking for a vacuum that comes with accessories, the vacuum reviews suggest that the BHP52120PC would be a better choice as the Linx does not come with any accessories. The BHP52120PC, on the other hand, includes a removable hand vacuum, a crevice tool and a motorized turbo tool. To ensure that these cordless vacuums remain in tip-top condition, I would suggest that you remove the battery once charged to preserve the lifespan of the battery. Both come with a two-year product warranty.

Best Vacuum Under $200 (Handheld Option): Dyson V6 Trigger Cordless Handheld Vacuum Cleaner

If you are looking for a handheld option, I would recommend the Dyson V6 for the best vacuum under $200. It boasts of a powerful digital motor which claims to provide twice the suction power of any other handheld vacuum in the market. This is the same digital motor used in Dyson’s more expensive, full-option model: the V6 Absolute cordless vacuum.

The battery can last up to 20 minutes in Standard power mode or about 6 minutes in Max power mode. There are 15 cyclones arranged across two tiers that work in tandem to increase airflow and trap more microscopic debris. The downside is that the Dyson V6 only comes with a crevice tool, unlike the pricier full-option model. This handheld vacuum comes with a two-year warranty.

Currently, there is a special deal for the Dyson V6 on Amazon just below $200. Don’t miss out on the opportunity for the best handheld vacuum at such an incredible price!

Best Vacuum Under $200 (Hybrid Option): Bissell Symphony

The Bissell Symphony is the best vacuum under $200 if you want a hybrid option. This is a product that can vacuum and steam simultaneously. At 10lbs, it is remarkably light. The Bissell Symphony is the best vacuum for an all-in-one cleaning option: you can prepare it to steam within 30 seconds, a large tank capacity means you don’t need to refill it with water halfway through cleaning the house, it comes with different mop pads for hardwood or tiled/marbled floors and a 25 feet power cord. It also comes with a two-year warranty. What’s more, even if you select any of the add-on bundle options for more tools and accessories, this product still falls within the $200 budget.

Unless you are buying a vacuum cleaner fit for a queen, you don’t need to break the bank to get one that best matches your requirements. There are many vacuums under $200 and I hope that my list will be helpful for you when it comes to shortlisting the best vacuum for you.
